I need your help

I couple of weeks ago Caleb and I were talking about how our house was not as "homey" was we would like it to be. I know "hominess" (another word I think I am making up) comes over time. But we have been here for almost 2 1/2 years. So this is were I need your help. Got any suggestions on making our house more "homey". I know many of you have been to our house...so picture it and please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Just remember I have a VERY small budget to spend and Aaron is 18 months which means, he gets into a lot that is at his level...aka on tables (endtables and such).

Along with making our home more homey I am getting this desire to decorate more seasonally. Over the past couple of years I have been getting into decorating for Christmas more and more. I am slowly growing my Christmas decorations thanks to after Christmas sales. Well, now I want to do a little decorating for the fall. I know many people have already had fall decorations out, but to me it is just now getting cool enough to really believe it is fall. So I would also love some help with some ideas of decorating for fall. I know some of you are very into this, so I am especially hoping for your help. Others are very creative, so I am hoping for your help too. Sorry to those of you who I picked on for your seasonal decorating in the past...you know who you are...I just didn't have the eyes to appreciate it yet.

A few things that I do and do not like to help you brain storm:
I am wanting to decorate for fall, not Halloween
No strings of pumpkin lights (sorry Megan)
Some fake flowers are ok...used sparingly
I just gots some decorative gords (sp?) from the farmers market that I like, but don't know how to use.
I like to keep things simple...I'm not near as creative as I would like.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will try to get some pictures up of areas I especially would like help with and things I have that can be used.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR COMMENTS

Now to get to the piles of laundry that have been waiting to be folded since Friday and Saturday.

fyi... i no longer have the pumpkin lights. You should most definitely get fall candles! :)I highly recommend yankee's pumpkin pie. Find'em on sale at Bed Bath and use a 20% coupon.

Pine cones... you can find 'em with Aaron (free activity!). They're very fall-like. Just add some holly and berries in a few months and they're Christmas decorations, too! :)
